The ATF requires prior authorization after a written request to transport any destructive device, machine gun, short-barreled rifle, or short-barreled shotgun under Section 922(a)(4), The ATF does not require this prior authorization for a suppressor.
ATF's Form 5320.20, which covers interstate transport and moving of NFA items, does not apply to silencers. It is only applicable to machine guns, destructive devices, AOWs, SBRs, and SBSs. Therefore, you don't need to notify the ATF about your move if all you own is a silencer.
It is worth noting that after sending this application into the ATF you should receive an approval or disapproval from the ATF within or around 2 weeks to 4 weeks, but it may and can take longer. If you are planning on transporting or permanently moving your NFA firearms you need to be aware of the time frames.
